Overview
This course introduces HP Diagnostics and teaches the ability to visualize, analyze, and ultimately improve the performance of enterprise applications. The course instructs on installation, configuration, and tuning of the Diagnostics components, how to troubleshoot the HP Diagnostics system performance, as well the use of the Diagnostics Profiler in J2EE/.NET environments. In addition to core capabilities, architecture, and navigation of Diagnostics, this course introduces techniques for performance trending and analysis of complex performance issues and bottlenecks.

Intended Audience
Operations managers responsible for managing performance of J2EE or .NET applications. Application support/Operations Managers/Devleopers Tier II tasked with being able ti triage performance issues to a specific application component or tier. Developers and architechs requiring problem isolation methodologies for drilling down into the core application elements comprising J2EE or .NET environments.

Prerequisites
  • Administration knowledge of Windows/Unix environments 
  • Operational knowledge of J2EE or .NET application infrastructure
  • Basic understanding of internetworking and web protocols
  • Fundamental understanding of the key components comprising composite applications
  • General knowledge of object oriented programming
  • Familiarity with network, system and application monitoring concepts

    Course Outline

  • At the end of this course, you will be able to:
  • Leverage HP Diagnostics in performance management of composite application environments
  • Perform triage and problem isolation in a J2EE or .NET application environments 
  • Identify and further drill down following a particular transaction experiencing performance issues 
  • Understand the concept of instrumentation, its aspects, and overhead 
  • Become familiar with HP Diagnostics architecture and integrations 
  • Acquire skills for installation, custom configuration, and fine tuning of the Diagnostics system 
  • Reconcile software installations with software licenses
  • Write scripts to extend Asset Manager's functionality
  • Create queries and views to filter data
  • Configure Asset Manager security and control database access
  • Import and export data using Asset Manager
  • Schedule automatic processes
